Every day at work, I see my patients struggling to be in their own bodies ~ to know who they are, what is it that they are searching for, and what exactly do they need. I see their inability to relate ~ to communicate from the heart, to overcome their distance and alienation from the realities of life, and they continuously avoid seeking freedom and tranquility. They ignore other people’s eyes and more often than expected, they are at a loss in knowing what others need from them. I see them searching for direction. They are absolutely confused with the “here and now” of life. They are constantly trying to summon their personal power without proper contemplation, longing for the strength to be independent.
They share the same wound of fragmentation, yet in every counseling session; they don’t share the cure for unification. You would probably respond, “Huh? What is she talking about?” I am speaking of the unification of healing. Healing is the unification of all the forces –the power of being, believing, feeling, seeing, and knowing. As a counselor, I always believe that a mental disease is nothing but inertia. It is the inactivity, unwillingness, and the resistance to change. People become lethargic and their indolence causes more damage than cure.
I am thankful that the wounded healer in me knows that healing comes from the ability to empower our bodies, our hearts, minds, souls, and spirits once more ~ to bring them into vital unity. We always have that choice. We always have that second chance to bring about the goodness of ourselves. I always believe that healing is a movement. And movement will always be my medium and my metaphor when it comes to counseling. I know that if a wave of energy is allowed to complete itself, it yields a whole new wave, and in fact that is all I really know. Throughout my life experiences and journey, riding these waves means joining the cosmic dance that will continue to evolve throughout my existence and the generations of the human race. As a human being, we have to take responsibility for being a body, for having a heart, for possessing a wonderful mind, for awakening our souls, and for opening our spirits. If you put your body in motion, you will change. If you seek and believe that you have to experience and complete each of your life cycles, integrating the teachings and tasks at every step, you will change. Always remember, you are meant to move ~ from flowing to staccato, through pandemonium into lyrical and back into the stillness from which all movement originates from. Continuous movement through your life cycle will make you whole, undivided by setbacks, trials, and tribulations. Furthermore, the spirit in motion heals, expands, circles in and out of the body that moves through your layers of consciousness from inertia into bliss, contentment, and serenity. If you open to the spirit, you will be transformed. If you let your heart be moved, be open to the risk and the adventure of feelings, letting them work through to completion, you will change. You will find that tears will turn into illuminated and authentic smiles. Anger and hatred will turn into embrace, love, and genuine empathy. If you awaken your soul, you will change. You will rejoice in the spirit of self-love, self-acceptance, and self-gratifications. If you engage your characters and watch yourself act them out, you will find the means to master them, execute, feel, think, and will eventually act according to your distinct and unique self. It is when you stop moving that will find yourself caught up out of place, behind, trailing, and eventually stagnant. You will react to situations of negativity, self-pity, and ultimately depressions, anxiety, and different types of mental disorders. It is imperative to remember, that in order to survive this tumultuous and challenging life, we need to do right by our body, to purify our relationships, use our mind for creative freedom and not to be succumbed to the enslavement of the ego, entrapment of the minds, and be bound to the servitude of a confusing and weak spiritual journey.
Movement ~ go forward, go beyond….
